Resumo

This proposal will enable the exchange of primary investigators (Ray La Pierre at McMaster, Yuri Pusep at Universidade de Sao Paulo) and graduate students. The project involves the growth of semiconductor nanowires for applications in photovoltacs (solar cells), photodetectors, and quantum information Processing devices. This proposal will fund a 1 week visit of the McMaster PI to the Universidade de Sao Paulo, and a 1 week visit of the Brazilian PI to McMaster, in both year 1 and year 2 for project discussions and exchange of knowledge. A McMaster graduate student will spend 2 weeks in each of the two years at the Universidade de Sao Paulo to learn methods of characterizing nanowires. Likewise, a graduate student from Universidade de Sao Paulo will spend 2 weeks in each of the two years at McMaster learning methods of nanowire growth and device fabrication. Ray La Pierre at McMaster will grow semiconductor nanowires for characterization in Brazil. Prof. Yuri Pusep at USP is an expert in magneto-photoluminescence, magneto-transport and Raman spectroscopy used for the characterization of nanostructures. He will apply these techniques to the nanowires and devices produced at McMaster University. In particular, magneto-photoluminescence and magneto-transport are methods that are not currently available at McMaster.
